About 21 – A Journey: Memoirs of a professional gambler:
Stephen Custer led a life of responsibility for almost 40 years, business owner, community leader, husband, and father. Then, at age 56, he sold his business and hit the road as a professional gambler. Not a swashbuckling, mid-life fling, luck be a lady tonight gambler, but a calculating, card-counting, always figure the odds gambler.
21 – A Journey chronicles his travels from the Indian casinos of New York, Michigan, Illinois, Iowa and New Mexico to the corporate gambling meccas of Biloxi, Reno and finally Las Vegas.
But 21 – A Journey is more than a gambling memoir; it is the personal story of a man dealing with loss and change, a man who suddenly finds his whole world changed, some by fate and some by his own decisions. He finds everything changed, everything but himself. He goes from stable family man to nomadic gambler, but his analytical approach to life remains. He can’t help but make the same mistakes in his new life that he made in his old.
The real journey is an internal journey of a man searching for meaning and love. This journey is uncharted, oft resisted, and at longer odds and greater peril than any high stakes casino game. This is the story of a man making $100 bets at the blackjack table in order to avoid even bigger risks.
If you are a gambler, you’ll learn why so many casinos float, whether casinos cheat, why casino parking lots are dangerous places, why you can’t quit while you’re ahead, and why there is no law of averages. You’ll learn when to take insurance, how third base controls the table, and why the dealer wins a majority of hands after a fill.
You’ll meet the psychic blackjack dealer, the truck driver who won $65,000 in a single night, the man who bet every number on the roulette wheel, the dealer who couldn’t count straight, and the spy for the state of Illinois.
If you are not a gambler, you will get a realistic, intelligent insight into the multibillion-dollar casino industry. Legalized gambling is one of the fastest growing industries in the United States, and affects every one of us, directly or indirectly. It is important for every informed citizen to understand the underside of this industry.
21 – A Journey will cause you to think about the role of chance and change in your own life, whether you test fate with your money or just your life.

About Hold ‘em: Playing Your Starting Hand with Tables Especially Designed for Online Play:
Hold’em is a game of decisions. Winning players don’t win by getting better cards; they win by making better decisions. The first decision you make in each hand is the most important. What to do with those first two cards? You cannot be a winning player if you don’t make good decisions before the flop.
The importance of good pre-flop decisions goes well beyond the money you spend to see the flop. Make the right pre-flop decision, and the rest of the hand just plays cleaner. Make poor pre-flop decisions, and you feel like you are swimming in sewage all day. When you find yourself trapped with a good, but most likely not-good-enough hand, it’s usually because of a poor pre-flop decision.
This report includes a set of easy to use tables specifically designed for online play. The guidance for selecting starting hands will serve you well anywhere, online or live game, but for a live game you will have to memorize them. However, online you can consult them as you play. You can instantly play your starting hands like a pro. |

About Nine Steps to Winning Blackjack:
Turn those weekend trips to your favorite casino, or your annual vacation to Las Vegas, into second incomes. Or, if your circumstances permit, do as the author did, and become a full time professional gambler. Contrary to what most popular books lead you to believe, playing winning blackjack is not rocket science, and does not require an MIT Ph.D. Most anyone can do it if they set themselves to it. It does require patience, discipline and concentration. Ironically, most people gamble because they want to avoid patience, discipline and oncentration. That’s why most gamblers lose. But, if you are willing to put some effort into the approach given here, be patient, disciplined and maintain your concentration at the table, you will become an advantage blackjack player – a player who has an edge over the casino.
Nine Steps to Winning Blackjack is a step-by-step approach to a winning blackjack game for the moderate stakes bettor. You don’t have to become part of a high-stakes team or have a six-figure bankroll. Blackjack is an unpredictable game, and no strategy can completely eliminate risk, however, this strategy is specifically designed to reduce financial risk in relationship to expected profits.
Any novice player can learn Step 1 in 10 minutes. Each subsequent step builds on the previous steps until you are an advantage player. There is even a step zero for people who have never played the game. Nine Steps to Winning Blackjack gives you more than just a “winning strategy.” It shows you how to use the “strategy” to make real money in real casinos. For example, it gives you money management techniques and bankroll requirements for each step. It gives advice on cover (the act you put on so the pit thinks you are anything but a winning player) and camouflage (making plays or bets to mislead the pit or surveillance), and what to do when the burly man in a brown suit asks you to accompany him to the back room.
There is a section on the very important topic of game selection. Game selection is what separates the true winning player from the player who learned a winning strategy, but just can’t seem to get ahead.

21 – A Journey: Memoirs of a professional gambler, by Stephen W. Custer, Ph.D.
Excerpt from 21 – A Journey:
Most people see a casino as a world ruled by chance and providence, a place where fortunes are made and more often lost, with no rational distinction between winners and losers. A kingdom where folly is king, luck his queen, fate his mistress, and serendipity his concubine; certainty and reason reduced to court jesters. For me the casino is the most logical, predictable place I know. There is a set of laws, and everything follows those laws, follows them without exception or deviation. Some days I win, some days I lose, but in the long run, I’ll make 1.4%. Play roulette and you’ll lose 5.26%. Play red, play black, play odd, play even, play your birthday, play your girlfriend’s measurements, play long enough and you’ll lose 5.26%. The laws of the casino are the laws of probability – laws that are more strictly enforced and irrevocable than any passed by any legislature. It’s like watching a rugby match. If you don’t know the rules, it looks like a street fight without the street. Know the rules, and it all makes sense. Let others talk about “hot tables.” Let others talk about “cold tables,” about “baby needs a new pair of shoes,” about “luck be a lady tonight.” Luck is not a lady, she is not a tramp, she is not even a she. Luck is an illusion; luck is a myth. Know the rules and the mystery is gone. Rationality is the true king. |
